Elvis is in the building! Barnes School participants had the pleasure of enjoying Elvis perform live for them on June 23, 2010. The participants loved every minute of it. They got up and danced and sang along with Elvis without missing a beat. As much as we would love to bring the real Elvis back to life, we got the next best thing: Dennis Taylor, Elvis impersonator. Dennis is only 14 years old, but he looks and sounds an awful lot like the real deal! You might need to hear it to believe it, so check out Dennis's website.

Councilor Arroyo visits Barnes The Elder Service Plan’s Barnes School PACE Center recently enjoyed a visit from Boston City Councilor At-Large Felix G. Arroyo. Councilor Arroyo delivered coffee and donuts to Barnes Center participants, who appreciated the visit.
Spring brings music to Barnes On April 6, 2010, the Elder Service Plan Barnes School PACE Center had the pleasure of hosting a performance by Adam Rosenwach. Adam is currently a graduate student at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He performed his own songs as well as requests from the audience. (See below for a mosaic of photos of the fun, or visit the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center's Facebook page for full-size photos.) Adam, who comes from New York, is eager to graduate in May. Adam’s musical inspiration comes from Ray Charles and the Beatles. He found his passion for music when he was only four years old and has been rocking ever since. The Beatles were a popular theme of the day. Our own staff member Gemma even joined in to sing “Let it Be.” Barnes participants loved that Gemma joined in and were cheering her on. They also enjoyed appreciated that Adam played songs from their generation. Theresa, a participant of the Barnes School, especially enjoyed Adam’s performance on the piano because until recently, she too enjoyed playing piano. As Adam played, Theresa moved her hands along with the music as if she were playing the piano keys herself. All of the participants agreed they wanted Adam to come back in the summer and to bring some friends! They really enjoyed his visit. Find out more about Adam at his website.
Carlo Basile Kicks off Holiday Season at Barnes Born and raised in East Boston, State Representative Carlo Basile gives back to his community in many ways. Carlo demonstrated his commitment to family and community by sponsoring a pizza party here at the Barnes School PACE Center on November 13. Participants appreciated Carlo’s generous launch of the holiday season with food, fun, and good cheer. You can see more photos of our event at the EBNHC Facebook page. Many elders do not have family nearby, and the holiday season can be difficult—but the Elder Service Plan provides the community and companionship that make the holidays a little brighter. Carlo shares our commitment to improving the lives of our senior community members, and his outreach always makes a difference. Many thanks, Carlo! |
