Individual breastfeeding support
Our breastfeeding peer counselors speak your language and understand how best to help you breastfeed successfully. Counselors are available by phone or can meet with you at the WIC clinic.
24-hour Breastfeeding Warm Line
Mothers and providers can use the Breastfeeding Warm Line to contact peer counselors with questions, comments, or concerns. Messages are returned within 24 hours. Call 617-568-6421.
Manual and electric breast pumps
WIC participants have access to breast pumps based on availability.
Breastfeeding classes
Breastfeeding classes provide mothers and fathers with an opportunity to learn and discuss basic breastfeeding techniques. Topics include:
- How breastfeeding works
- How to establish a good milk supply
- How to get your baby to latch on
- How to know if your baby is getting enough milk
- Positions for breastfeeding
- When and where to get help if you need it
- How to select a pump
- How to express and store breast milk
Breastfeeding support groups
Our breastfeeding support groups are open to moms in East Boston and the surrounding communities. The groups are conducted in a relaxed setting with other mothers and their babies.
