How are you feeling?

Your emotional and mental well-being are just as important as your physical health. The Mental Health and Social Services Department at the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center (EBNHC) is here to help when you feel overwhelmed, depressed, anxious, or have a family problem you just can’t fix on your own. We understand that everyone needs a little help from time to time.

Our staff of highly qualified, experienced, and well-trained licensed mental health professionals includes clinical social workers, licensed mental health counselors, a licensed marriage and family therapist, a clinical nurse specialist, and a consultant psychiatrist. Additionally, we participate in social work internship training programs. Our staff works throughout the health center, instead of in one group of offices, to allow our patients to receive care conveniently and confidentially, where and when they need it.

Our services

We provide high-quality mental health services in a culturally sensitive, confidential, and caring manner. We provide treatment for a range of conditions and life situations, including:

  • Major depression
  • Anxiety disorder
  • Adjustment disorder
  • Divorce
  • Domestic abuse
  • Attention-deficit disorder (ADD) in children

We offer short-term, solution-focused psychotherapy individually to adults, teens, and children, as well as to groups, families, and couples. We also provide psychopharmacology consultations and crisis assessment and management. Whether the issues are related to family, job, or stress, our well-qualified staff provides assessment, referral and/or brief, focused treatment. Services are available in English and Spanish.

Becoming a patient

To qualify for mental health services at EBNHC, you must be a primary care patient of the health center. Due to the collaborative nature of the services we provide, our patients must be committed to receiving their health care here. You must also have a condition that can be managed in a primary health care setting. If your condition is one that cannot be treated at the health center, we will complete an evaluation and refer you to the appropriate care facility.

If you are interested in accessing mental health or social services at EBNHC, speak to your primary care provider and he or she will submit a referral. You can also come to the atrium desk on the second floor of 10 Gove Street any weekday (Monday through Friday) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., for a same-day screening appointment at the Mental Health Department’s Open Access Clinic. Lastly, you can also leave a message at the self-referral line at 617-568-4545 and a clinician will contact you in a timely manner.
