The medications you need, where and when you need them.

pharmacyCan you imagine having to travel up to two hours round-trip on public transportation to fill a prescription? That was once the only option for many of our neighbors in East Boston and surrounding communities. When the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center (EBNHC) opened an onsite clinical 340B pharmacy in 2003, patient access to prescription medications was significantly improved, along with the quality and value of their health care.

Our pharmacy is a very busy place. Within a year of our opening, we filled more than 150,000 prescriptions for 18,000 users, three times the amount of an average retail pharmacy. A state-of-the-art fulfillment system helps us to meet this demand with speed and accuracy.

EBNHC patients represent a wide array of cultural groups. Less than half of our patients speak English as a first language. To meet this linguistic need, most of our frontline pharmacy staff are bilingual in English and Spanish, and interpreters of several other languages are readily available within the health center. Our pharmacy staff participate in cultural competency training, an uncommon quality among retail pharmacies. When patients are able to speak with pharmacy staff and ask questions in their own language, treatment plans are easier to follow—and patient satisfaction and overall health are improved.

The location of our pharmacy within the health center enables us to enhance the quality of care that we provide. Pharmacists and providers work together on drug treatment designs, and pharmacy staff can access medical records and make notes regarding patient compliance for providers. This collaboration benefits all patients at EBNHC.

The pharmacy is located on the first floor of the health center at 10 Gove Street in East Boston. We are open for business six days a week, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We are closed on Sundays. Our automated prescription refill line is available 24/7 (please see your prescription label for instructions). To reach the pharmacy, call 617-568-7205.
